Aleta Pippin’s paintings are about experimentation and process. She delights in her layering technique used when painting in oil. Pippin spreads thin glazes of color upon thin glazes of color – always with a goal of creating visual depth and texture, with energetic, warm, vibrant color.
Her mixed media paintings are usually done with acrylics, though she is currently experimenting with oils, patinas, composition leaf and resins. She strives for interest in surface texture, as well as for depth and light, as she experiments with these various media to achieve that desired effect.
Courageously experimenting with different techniques and media, even though it may cost a painting, Pippin is excited about pushing each painting to a higher level and witnessing its unfolding as one would witness a moth becoming a butterfly. The delight she feels as this metamorphosis takes place is palpable and inspirational.
